Thumbtack

Thumbtack, the technology leader in bringing the $500 billion home services industry online, decided to remain a “Virtual-First” workplace following the pandemic. Along with this direction, however, they were also determined to ensure that employees felt connected and engaged – to the company and to each other. 

To accomplish this goal Thumbtack developed a robust in-person events blueprint for 2022, and tapped Sequence as their exclusive agency partner to bring the experiences to life. The calendar included more intimate events for department and group off-sites, but the tentpole event was Camp Thumbtack: a multi-day, company-wide off-site designed to develop relationships, grow Thumbtack’s culture, and rally around the company’s mission. 

A 10-month planning engagement, Camp Thumbtack was equal parts strategy, creative, production and logistics. The collaboration began with a thorough deep dive into the Thumbtack brand, a culture Discovery, as well as the company’s motivation behind a Camp-themed experience (an inaugural event meant truly building the experience from the bottom up!). Once there was alignment on the strategic framework and the creative concepting, the Sequence team worked tirelessly to bring this event to life. From creating the event logo and a unique visual identity through to an inspiring and extraordinary three days onsite, the first-ever Camp Thumbtack was a resounding success.

Taking place over three days in Denver, Colorado for 600+ Thumbtackers, Camp Thumbtack had everything for everyone. Optional activities included tie-dye, mini golf, yoga, a bevy of yard games and athletics, aromatherapy, rock climbing, dance classes, stargazing, survival lessons, and much, much more. There were dance parties – silent [disco] and live –, scary stories (camp-themed, of course), keynotes from the leadership, a first-ever employee awards ceremony, a slew of surprise and delight moments, and of course seamlessly woven-in camp-themed photo ops, and food & beverage experiences. Like we said, everything for everyone!

We could spend the next three paragraphs talking about what an incredible success Camp 2022 was, but we’ll let some of the Thumbtackers do that instead so we can spend our time focusing on how to make Camp Thumbtack 2023 even more memorable.
